Conditions for depression of spodumene contained in Itinga-Aracuai (Brazil) pegmatitic bodies were studied using corn starch, dextrin, or Al(NO3)3 as the depressant. Dextrin exhibited no selective depressing action, whereas Al(NO3)3 could be used as a selective depressant. The concentrate obtained contained ?6.5% LiO2 at recovery 91%. In the amine (Armac 12D)-corn starch system, the concentrate contained 5.87-6.74% LiO2 at recovery 71.5-89.3%. NaOH pretreatment did not affect the results obtained with that system.

Zeta-potential measurements were made to determine the elec. state of phosphor materials on the basis of which a feasibility study can be performed for the use of flotation in the recovery of fine (median size <13 μm) rare earth phosphors from waste fluorescent lamps. Tests were carried out on specimens of white (calcium halo-phosphate), red, green and blue (rare earth) phosphors in a 17:1:1:1 ratio of their mixture, and with actual waste phosphor materials. The effects of a cationic, dodecyl ammonium acetate (DAA), and two anionic, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and sodium oleate collectors on the floatability of materials, as well as that of Na2SiO3 dispersant on the separation characteristics, were investigated in different pH ranges. The process, applied to actual discarded waste phosphors gave, in a two-stage separation scheme, sink products assaying 17.7-23.8 and 21.5-25.9% rare earth phosphors for DAA and SDS flotation, resp. The recovery and Newton’s efficiency were about 70-90%/0.26-0.37 and 66-82%/0.18-0.20 for DAA and SDS flotation, resp.

The process of beneficiation of complex oxidized Pb-Zn ores consisted in identifying the deposits, isolating the main Pb and Zn minerals, preparing samples of pure species to test the flotation processes, preparing ores of the oxidized minerals and verifying their degree of liberation, and testing the flotation process on the oxidized ores. Ores containing smithsonite  [14476-25-6] and cerussite  [14476-15-4] are conditioned with Na2S for better sulfidization of the smithsonite surfaces. This is followed by dilution of the pulp before conditioning with dodecylamine acetate  [2016-56-0], so that the pH is as low as possible.

The effect of eight organic counterions (aliphatic, both mono and dicarboxylates) on the surface and micellar behavior of decyl and dodecyl ammonium carboxylates in aqueous solution has been examined by different physicochem. techniques such as surface tension, dye solubilization, conductance viscosity and NMR. The effect of these counter-ions as observed from surface activity, and critical micelle concentration (CMC) is explained in terms of their condensation /penetration onto/into the micelles. The decrease in CMC and increase in counter-ion binding of cationic surfactants is attributed to the increased hydrophobicity in alkyl chain of counter-ions. In the case of monocarboxylate counter-ions, CMC decreases significantly in the order: n-butyrate < propionate < acetate <formate, while for dicarboxylates decrease in CMC with increase in number of carbon atoms in the counter-ion is less substantial. Compared to monocarboxylates, dicarboxylate counter-ions condense strongly onto the micelle surface and thus are capable of being easily incorporated into the micelles and consequently show greater surface activity, and lower CMC of cationic surfactant. The effect of temperature on surface activity and micellar behavior of decyl ammonium succinate is also reported.

(1991), 127-32, database is CAplus.

Selective flotation of muscovite from a material containing muscovite (15.4%), biotite (13%), and siliceous gangue (quartz and feldspar), using a mixed collector system of Na oleate and dodecylamine acetate, is described. Muscovite floats in preference to biotite when the pulp is initially conditioned with oleate followed by amine at basic pH values. The results indicate that a product containing 63% muscovite with a recovery of 93% can be obtained while using 75-150 g oleate and 96 g amine per ton. The biotite grade and recovery are 0 and 20%, resp. A good selectivity between muscovite and siliceous gangue is obtained. A final product containing 95% muscovite with an overall recovery of 75% is obtained when the flotation concentrate is subjected to magnetic separation Thus, muscovite can be separated from biotite by using a mixture of collectors.

Li, Tianguo published the artcileMineralogical and iron recovery from CCS flotation tails by physico-interfacial separation: separation of magnetite and iron silicates, Synthetic Route of 2016-56-0, the publication is Oxidation Communications (2016), 39(1), 25-40, database is CAplus.

Copper converter slag (CCS) discharge causes significant environmental problems. In this work, on the basis of a study of mineralogical characteristics, the recovery of iron from CCS flotation tails using a combined process of magnetic separation and reverse flotation was investigated. The study revealed that CCS flotation tails are primarily composed of magnetite (21.49%) and iron silicates (72.52%). The iron content of CCS flotation tails is as high as 49.60%, while only 30.31% of the iron distributed in the magnetite and ferroalloy shows significant magnetic properties. Zeta-potential studies of magnetite, quartz and fayalite samples have shown that amines are well adsorbed, both on the surfaces of the magnetite and also on the surfaces of the iron silicates, within a pH range of 5-10. The iron content of CCS flotation tails can be effectively upgraded to 59.61% using magnetic separation Amines with different mol. structures performed different selectivity for iron silicates when reverse flotation was used to remove iron silicates from the magnetic concentrate The use of mixtures of cationic and anionic collectors provided a formation of a stable hydrophobic adsorption layer on the surface of the iron silicates and magnetite-silicate aggregates; this improved the flotation of these mineral particles, even in the presence of a starch, which acted as a depressant of Fe oxides. The scheme of combining magnetic separation and reverse flotation is a promising method to use to (a) recover iron and (b) produce iron concentrates with Si02 content of 6.59% and Fe content of up to 63.35% from CCS flotation tails with Si02 content as high as 36.40%.
