The influence of the substitution on the properties of the diphenylaminyl system and on the dissociation of the tetraarylhydrazines was discussed.

Poly(azo-1,4-phenylenimino-1,4-phenylene) was obtained by the reduction of 4,4′-dinitrodiphenylamine with Zn and poly(azo-1,4-phenylenacetylimino-1,4-phenylene) was synthesized by the diazotization of 4,4′-diaminodiphenylamine and subsequent coupling with N-acetyldiphenylamine.
