Conducting polymers containing both, amino- and azo-groups, in the main chain exhibit unique properties of combined polyaniline and polyazoarylenes. New conducting polymers were prepared and the effect of the mol. structure and dopant (I) concentration on the elec. conductivity was investigated. Poly(azo-1,4-phenylenimino-1,4-phenylene) was obtained by the reduction of 4,4′-dinitrodiphenylamine with Zn and poly(azo-1,4-phenylenacetylimino-1,4-phenylene) was synthesized by the diazotization of 4,4′-diaminodiphenylamine and subsequent coupling with N-acetyldiphenylamine.
