Photolysis of I (R = H, R1 = Br).HCl gave (¡À)-anolobine (III), I (R = R1 = H), and II. II on reductive debromination gave 9-hydroxy-2,3-methylenedioxyberbine. IR spectrum of synthetic anolobine was identical with that of natural anolobine.
