The authors accomplished a controlled diastereodivergence in the asym. synthesis of fully functionalized tetrahydropyrans I (R1 = C6H5, 2-ClC6H4, 2,4-Cl2C6H3, 2-thienyl, etc., R2 = OC2H5, CH3, R3 = CH3, C2H5, n-Pr) by adjusting the sequence of an organocatalytic cascade reaction.
